Light Summer Color Palette

Also called Light Cool Summer. Same season — one palette.

Light Summer is light, cool and soft, with the lowest contrast of the cool family. The defining experience of this season is that black is actively wrong on you — not merely suboptimal, but the single thing most likely to make you look unwell in a photograph.

Your 8 colors

Light, cool and gently muted. Powder blue, soft rose, periwinkle, mint. The error is depth: reaching for a navy where a soft blue belongs, or a burgundy where a rose does. The hue survives, the lightness does not, and the result overwhelms.

Your neutrals

Soft navy replaces black entirely. This is the most valuable single swap in this season. It gives you a dark anchor without the weight, and it keeps the contrast inside the range your coloring can carry.

Light grey and cool cream handle the light end. Pure white is not catastrophic here, but cool cream is better.

Dove grey is the underused one — a proper mid-tone that neither of the obvious neutrals provides.

Gold or silver?

Silver or rose gold. Rose gold in particular suits the softness of this season in a way it does not suit the sharper cool seasons.

What to avoid

Black — the defining error. Soft navy instead, every time.

Orange — warm and strong at once.

Bright jewel tones — emerald, cobalt and true red all overpower a coloring this light.

Heavy dark neutrals — charcoal, espresso and deep brown all sit outside the value range you can carry.

How to tell if you're really Light Summer

Light Summer's twin is Light Spring, and undertone is the whole difference.

Silver against gold at the jaw. Light Summer looks cleaner in silver. Light Spring looks warmer and healthier in gold.

Then test the pastels. A cool powder blue against a warm peach. One will make your skin look even and the other will bring out redness.

Against Soft Summer, check value rather than undertone. If mid-depth colors start to feel heavy and you consistently prefer the lightest version of everything, you are Light Summer.
