Soft Summer Color Palette
Also called Muted Summer. Same season — one palette.
Soft Summer is the most misdiagnosed season in the system, and almost always in the same direction: people land on Winter because black looks wrong on them and they assume they need more contrast. The opposite is true. Your coloring carries its interest in subtlety, and the thing fighting you is saturation, not depth.

Your 8 colors
Muted is the whole brief. Every color here has grey in it, and that is a feature rather than a compromise. The usual mistake is picking the right hue at full strength: a clear teal instead of a muted one, a true rose instead of a dusty one. Full saturation reads as loud next to you, and loud is the one thing this coloring cannot absorb.
Your neutrals
This is where most of the wardrobe damage happens, because Soft Summer is poorly served by both default neutrals.
Black is too heavy and pure white is too stark. They are opposite errors with the same result: the clothing wins and the face recedes. Soft grey and charcoal blue do everything black is supposed to do, without the drain.
Oatmeal is your white. It gives you the light neutral without the hard edge, and it sits properly against skin that has no strong contrast of its own.
Warm taupe is the surprise. Soft Summer is cool-neutral rather than fully cool, which means a warm-leaning taupe works where a cold beige would not.
Gold or silver?
Brushed silver, or matte rose gold. The finish matters more here than the metal does — anything highly polished introduces a shine that the rest of your coloring does not have, and the mismatch reads as costume.
What to avoid
Black — too heavy, and it flattens the low contrast that defines this season. Charcoal blue or soft grey instead.
Pure white — the same error from the other side. Oatmeal instead.
Bright saturated colors — the single most common failure. A clear cobalt or a true red does not sit next to this coloring, it shouts over it. Take the same hue and mute it.
Orange — warm and bright at once, which is both problems together.

How to tell if you're really Soft Summer
Soft Summer is confused with Soft Autumn on undertone and with True Summer on chroma. Both tests are quick.
Against Soft Autumn, put silver and gold side by side at your jaw in daylight. Silver should look clean and gold should look slightly yellow against your skin. If gold looks like it belongs and silver looks cold, you are Soft Autumn.
Against True Summer, hold a clear teal next to a muted one. If the clear version pulls attention off your face and the muted version lets your face stay in front, you are Soft. If the clear one simply looks better, you are True Summer.
The reliable signal for this season is that you look tired in things other people call flattering. That is saturation, not you.
